You saw it here! Training now available for Maine logging jobs
MILLINOCKET, Maine — A new community college initiative called the Mechanized Logging Operations Training Program is now being offered to those wishing to pursue a career in logging. The program is a collaboration between the Professional Logging Contractors of Maine, Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle, Eastern Maine Community College, in Bangor, and Washington County Community College, in Calais.
A Professional Logging Contractors of Maine official noted that job availability and new hiring in the logging industry has increased 12 to 15 percent in the last several years and the training programs are being offered to help address the need for more manpower. The need for new loggers is growing critical, as the average age of a logger in Maine is 55.
The first Mechanized Logging Operations Training Program class is expected to begin with 36 students in early 2016.
