MCWWC offering free business startup course in Lewiston
LEWISTON, Maine — The Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community is offering a multi-week course for new or potential entrepreneurs in the early stage of starting a business. The course is free and open to both men and women, but class size is limited to 15 people and an application is required.
The class begins April 2. All classes will be held at the Univeristy of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn Campus at 51 Westminster St., Lewiston.
New Ventures Entrepreneurship Training is a 12-week, one-day-a-week course presenting the basics of business planning. Topics covered include identifying and reaching target customers, identifying competition, developing marketing strategies, record keeping, cash flow projections, taxes and more. Upon completion of the course, participants will have finished a business plan in hand. Three follow-up sessions, to provide networking and support as business owners move forward, are also available.
Completion of a a multiple-step application process is required to attend. Participants are required to complete an application by March 20, attend an orientation from 9:30 a.m. to noon March 26 and to participate in a 30-minute informal interview.
The first session will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday April 2, and is scheduled to continue on Thursdays until June 25. No class is scheduled on April 23 due to spring vacation.
