Maine lobster helps state fishery hook a record haul
ROCKPORT, Maine — Thanks to a big jump in the price of Maine lobster, state fishermen hauled in a record catch worth $585 million in 2014. The value of last year’s catch increased by $44 million over 2013.
Maine lobster accounted for $456 million of the state’s total catch, which was also a record for the state. Maine hauls in over 80 percent of the nation’s lobster and, while the total weight of last year’s catch was slightly lower than 2013, increased domestic and Asian demand led to a spike in price.
