Maine Top Gun pitch competition offering a $10k top prize
PORTLAND, Maine — For the first time ever, the winner of the 2015 Top Gun Showcase Pitch Event will be awarded a $10,000 cash prize. The winner will also receive a one year business services package from Great Works Internet (GWI). The event is presented by the Maine Center for Entrepreneurial Development (MCED) and the University of Maine’s Target Technology Center.
The Top Gun entrepreneurship acceleration program began in Portland in 2009. In 2012, as part of the Blackstone Accelerates Growth Initiative, the program expanded statewide to include a Bangor location and will grow again in 2015 to Rockland.
Winning entrepreneurs will be chosen from three regional pitch-off events, to be held in May from an anticipated pool of 30 companies, will be offered a chance to compete for the cash and in-kind prize package.
“Top Gun graduates have gone on to win MassChallenge, Gorham Savings Bank’s LaunchPad competition, CleanTech Open as well as receive funding from MTI, Maine Angels, Maine Venture Fund and other outside investors,” said Susan Ruhlin, Program Manager for Top Gun, “The time seemed right to offer a cash incentive to one of the standout companies.”
The Top Gun Maine program is made possible by the Blackstone Accelerates Growth Initiative, the Maine Technology Institute, as well as many local business sponsors, program advisors and mentors.
